So, seeing as it’s Christmas Eve and all, here’s a rather cheery, festive tune (until you listen to the lyrics!) by Bradford Cox from Deerhunter. I love the vocals on it, particularly when he sings “Electrrroo-shock thhhherrappy”. The lyrics are quite clever too I think and really make it very different to most Christmas songs in true Bradford Cox fashion
2010 was a good year for music but 2009 was better
Me and some of my friends have been arguing amongst ourselves these past few days about a rather pretentious and cliché topic. It began when I was talking to my friend, John, about some of our favorite releases of this year. If you’re into Indie music you can probably guess the albums we were discussing: The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, The Age of Adz by Sufjan ‘mother-fuckin’ Stevens, Halycon Digest by Deerhunter, Teen Dream by Beach House and High Violet by The National, to name a few. As the two of us continued to list off our favorite albums of the year, I realized that this year hadn’t lived up to the expectations I had, based on last year. 2009 was an incredible year for music and while 2010 has been an excellent year too, in my opinion, it just didn’t quite compare to 2009. This outraged John and he later went on to exclaim that “2009 will be forgotten like your feeble ignorance!” in his usual eccentric way.
Since then another one of my friends, Michael, has also gotten involved in the argument and he agrees with John. Here’s why they’re wrong.
Well, here it goes, my first post on tumblr. I had been trying to think of the something that would be appropriate to write in my first post for a while and finally decided on something I plan on doing quite frequently: a list of what I’m listening to.
I listen to a lot of music and enjoy talking about the aspects of songs I like/dislike or find interesting, so writing down some of these thoughts here may spare some of my friends the annoyance of indulging me and my pretentious music blabber.
SO, without further ado, here’s what I’m listening to:
Panda Bear - Slow Motion and other singles from Tomboy, I’m currently obsessed with Slow Motion and have some very high hopes for Tomboy
Panda Bear - Person Pitch, CRAZY album of alt-folk, heavily sampled, awesomeness.
Beach House - Devotion & Teen Dream, had never really listened to them properly before and had no idea what I was missing. Although I prefer Devotion to Teen Dream, despite the fact that Teen Dream is the ‘cool one to like’
Panda Bear - Young Prayer, beautiful album and totally different to what I expected. (Lots of Panda Bear here)
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy AKA ”The 10.0”
